Cornerstones Of Success

If you were to focus on only three cornerstones to create success in your real estate business, what would they be? Today, we'll take a brief look at three that I feel are extremely important in your business. The roots of success grow from each cornerstone.

  • Aptitude

Aptitude is your ability, capacity, and capability within your real estate business. Some of it is certainly God given, but for the most part, your aptitude is learned. Things like your new client conversion ratio, percentage of listings taken and closed, customer experience, leadership ability and on down the line are skill and experience based.

Where do you feel the most challenged in your real estate business today? This is a great place to start.

  • Attitude

Boy, this one is a complex nut to crack! We've all been conditioned by our parents, experiences, and society to react unconsciously to stimuli. Yes, at a basic level there is pessimism and optimism, but that's not always very helpful. Both pessimism and optimism show up far more often in our thoughts and conversations than most realize. Our explanatory style is either pessimistic or optimistic and it's typically influenced by our mothers or whoever we felt closest to as a child and adolescent. Here's where it gets tricky, there is a time and a place for pessimism and optimism. However, optimists tend to be more successful, healthier, and enjoy greater resilience. Optimism can be learned!!

Every year, I typically set at least one character trait change goal. In 2014, I chose to become a realistic optimist. I spent 45 Sundays in church, read the books, and listened to the audio. It changed my business and life!

With my certifications based in human performance, we go way beyond optimism and pessimism into tangible and measurable ways of working on attitude!

Is your attitude standing in the way or your highest aspirations?

  • Motivation

Without motivation, you can forget the first two! Like attitude, motivation and desire can be a difficult nut to crack. It's deeply personal and it's very dependent on age, past success, and values. In my younger years, a majority of my drive was fear based and I see it in the clients I coach, agents I've mentored, and the highly successful performance partners I've had over the years. While it can lead to great "success", it's often not sustainable as we can't outrun or outwork our fears. They must be dealt with before they run us ragged and the wheels come loose! On the flip side, we can be driven by more intrinsic motivators and faith. I believe it's a crucial mindset shift for every real estate agent at some point. A mindset shift that will lead to new heights in your business, sustainability, and certainly greater peace of mind.

When's the last time you felt the fire burning in your gut? You gotta find that!

In closing, clearly these three are far from exhaustive, but they will all be extremely crucial in the new market environment. They are all right in my coaching wheel house too!

I'm really excited about this option for my clients!
